I love little pussy....
Her coat is so warm
and if I don't hurt her
she'll do me no harm.
She'll sit by my side
I'll give her some food
And pussy will love me
Because I am good
So I won't pull her tail
Nor drive her away
And pussy and I
Very gently will play.
Anyway, in addition to the termites and the HUGE flying cockroaches that sneak into the house, we also have a few little mice. No surprise in a house this big and old. Lots of lovely nooks and crannies for little mice families to grow. However, Kitty is on top of it. Literally. And lately the mice have been such teeny little things - so cute that ~K~ wants to keep them.
Like most cats do with their prey - Kitty doesn't usually kill them right away. I mean, where's the fun in that? She likes to let the poor thing run and think it can get away and then she will pounce on it again and repeat until the critter dies from exhaustion. Sometimes she gives the mice a push with her paw to make them move. They think they have a chance. I kind of feel bad for them - not for the roaches though. There is no death cruel enough for a roach.
Anyway, Kitty especially likes to deposit her dead/dying catch in front of our doors so that we get a nice surprise when we emerge from our room or the bathroom. In the middle of the night. In the dark. Barefoot. She's smart, she is. And she loves us, she does.
Last night, while suffering from a horrible migraine, I let the cat in my room when she scratched at the door. Not a usual occurance but lately she wants in. Probably to antagonize the dog. Cats are like that.
And in my stupor I completely forgot that the dog chose to sleep somewhere else, so in the middle of the night when I heard some crashes from the corner of my room, I yelled at the dog to leave the cat alone.
I awoke again to feel the cat pouncing over and over by my feet. All I could think was OHMYGAWD that's what that crash was. The cat caught a roach. The cat has a live roach. IN MY BED. WITH ME. AND THE ROACH MIGHT ACTUALLY TOUCH ME.
Headache and all, I shot up and jumped out and hit the lights. My heart was pounding. And there, there, hanging out of Kitty's mouth was a little tail and teeny little leg. She was playing her murderous game of cat and mouse in my bed. On top of me.
Well, at least it wasn't a roach.
Good kitty.
