Two down, two to go.
So, Halloween and Thanksgiving are behind us. Both successful events in light of the situation. Us being evacuees. Technically homeless and all. Not that we are living on the streets. J&K have been most gracious and generous. Opening their home and lives to our menagerie. Giving us our own phone number. One that our addlepated brains can easily remember. Tolerating our comings and goings and visits with the FBI. Sharing their larder, kitchen, laundry room and privacy.
We are still waiting to hear about our FEMA trailer although I understand it is getting closer to us by theminute month. I am also trying to buy a house. It would be nice to have some place of our very own for Christmas and to ring in the New Year. As well as someplace for ~K~ and I to celebrate our birthdays. An official someplace all "our own".
And we can hardly wait. We've started purchasing pieces of furniture - we now have 2 storage ottomans. And other good and benevolent folk have donated various household appliances and things to our family, including storage containers of all shapes and sizes. We like storage containers considering both trailer and potential house will be small. Very small. And soap. they send us lots of soap. I wonder what, if any thing, they are trying to tell us. :)
And now we actually have been donated not one but two artificial trees: one small in case we are living in a trailer and one larger in the event we are in a real house. We also have some beautiful "new" decorations as our wonderful collection of ornaments and other holiday paraphenalia (some antique, all cherished) including ~K~'s gigantic xmas stocking, are still sitting in the flood water trapped in our storage unit. By the time we can go back to pry the unit's door open, I'm not sure if anything will be salvageable.
Every day I remember something else we've lost to Katrina. This week I remembered: ~K~'s beautiful baby pictures, my Velvet Elvis, our nice tent (still in the box) and the rest of our camping stuff, my SCA garb and gear as well as boxes of fabric with which to sew more garb and my beautiful quilt and other parts of the Humpty Dumpty collection I started while expecting ~K~.
But it was just that - stuff. I have the real ~K~ right here, born on Elvis' birthday. We don't need a tent anytime soon as the trailer will be camping enough for me. I won't have time for the SCA for a long while - we still have much to take care of in New Orleans while trying to settle down here.
We actually have everything we really need including each other. It's just the 'wants', 'wishes' and some of the dreams that we are lacking. But that's ok...... we're quite thankful anyway.
