It's that time of year again.
We have a deal, ~K~ and I. As much as she'd like, I won't discuss Halloween (her FAVORITE holiday) until the first of October. You know, the "what should I be this year" conversation. That way I'm not involved in the drawn out decision making process which involves lots of magazines and much changing of the mind. Not September first. Not September thirtieth. But October first. That's the official day when I will even begin to acknowledge the approach of THE BIG DAY.
However, last year, last Halloween to be more precise, October 31, 2004, after the discomfort of being forced to wear her absolutely BOO-tiful headless ghost costume, she chose en route exactly what she'd be this year. A costume that required a minimum of preparation with a maximum effect. (And I don't think she minds at all losing the headless costume to the hurricane.)
She chose to be the "Phantom of the Opera."
Easy 'nuff. Lots of resources for great costume accessories.
However the hurricane threw a big kink into the works. Where would we be living on 10-31? Would we be somewhere conducive to safe trick-or-treating? Would I be able to get the costume pieces or patterns to make one? Would we have to evacuate yet again - leaving our newly purchased costume and supplies behind?
Subsequently, I put off the discussions, negotiations, and planning. Until yesterday. That's when I hit a great 50% off Halloween sale. Good thing as the clock was ticking down on me. But now I've all the necessary phantom accoutrements. And some decorations as well. ~K~ is thrilled to death. It's better than Xmas for her.
But it was today, when ~K~ asked what I and her g-mother would be for Halloween, that I remembered the other great costumes I made last year. The bee hive (me) and ice witch (my mom). They were really neat. And lots of fun to wear and walk around in. And they too were lost to the flood waters.
I don't plan to dress this year. I'll just let ~K~ garner all the attention and enjoy the holiday through her eyes.
