It's not too late to whip it.
I was watching a rerun of "Raising Helen (2004) on tv last night. I know. I know. I don't have a real life. Haven't we already THOROUGHLY covered that?
Anyhoo. Part of the storyline includes references to the song "Whip It." Yes that one. By Dee Eee Vee Oh, we are Devo.
And sure. We've all sung that song without a second thought. We've probably even made lyrical references to "whipping it."
Surely it's about whipping IT.
Whipping.
You know.
IT.
Right?
In the movie, a woman (who dies) leaves her surviving sisters letters explaining why she made the decisions as outlined in her will. One of the letters is simply the lyrics to "Whip it" which has the other sister fit to be tied but fully explains all to the one who received it.
As I was sitting here watching the tube, with the computer up and running, of course, I decided to take a closer look at the words. Surprisingly I found out that it's not about S&M or anything of a sexual nature... as you can read the backstory for yourself here.
And one verse in particular really spoke to me:
Now it's your lucky day because I'm not going to interpret this for you. So you won't have to read through my personalization of DEVO lyrics. But take a minute to think about it for yourself.
Actually take a minute to read all of them. Here they are for your edification:

"When a good time turns around. You must whip it.
You will never live it down. Unless you whip it.
No one gets their way. Until they whip it."

Crack that whip.
Give the past the slip.
Step on a crack.
Break your momma's back.
When a problem comes along.
You must whip it.
Before the cream sits out too long.
You must whip it.
When something's going wrong.
You must whip it.
Now whip it.
Into shape.
Shape it up.
Get straight.
Go forward.
Move ahead.
Try to detect it.
It's not too late.
To whip it.
Whip it good.
When a good time turns around.
You must whip it.
You will never live it down.
Unless you whip it.
No one gets their way.
Until they whip it.
I say whip it.
Whip it good. x2
Chorus
Whip it gooooooood.
Give the past the slip.
Step on a crack.
Break your momma's back.
When a problem comes along.
You must whip it.
Before the cream sits out too long.
You must whip it.
When something's going wrong.
You must whip it.

Unless you whip it.

Whip it good. x2
Chorus
Whip it gooooooood.
I think I've found my new catch phrase.
